As many know DOUG ROSE - Outdoor Writer, Flyfishing Guide, mentor and friend - passed away in the spring of 2013. Throughout his life, Doug was always a staunch defender of all things wild, and he was a passionate supporter of the Wild Olympics Campaign. He took a leadership role in our campaign to protect new Wilderness and Wild & Scenic Rivers on the Olympic Peninsula, appearing in newspaper ads, speaking to the press, posting about the campaign repeatedly on his blog and co-founding Sportsmen for Wild Olympics.  At the request of his family, we are continuing to feature Doug on this site as one of our co-founders and spokespeople for Sportsmen for Wild Olympics. Simply put, without Doug their would be no Sportsmen for Wild Olympics. (You can visit Doug's website Doug Rose Fly Fishing by clicking on his picture).

We miss you dearly Doug.

Here's what Doug said about the Wild Olympics Wilderness and Wild & Scenic Rivers Act in his newspaper ad for the Campaign:

"As an outdoor writer, fly fishing guide, and avid duck and grouse hunter, I welcome the additional protections that the Campaign for a Wild Olympics is proposing. They will help protect the water quality that anadromous fish require, and preserve the upper basin spawning grounds of species like cutthroat, summer steelhead and bull trout. And I will still be able to hunt in all of the areas proposed by the campaign, and I will be able to bring my black Labrador retriever, Ruby."

Doug was actually a very private person, yet he extended his public presence and his passion as a a passionate outdoorsman and a skilled and dedicated writer to support the Wild Olympics campaign
unril his death. If you've valued his writing, his skill and honorableness as a guide and a person, or his friendship, please support Wild Olympics.
